Devlog 5, Upgrade and other progress


Devlog after a long while. Upgrade system and other minor changes have been added. Below is a complete list of the changes added:

1. Upgrade System 


A simple upgrade system for the player's tool. The upgrade system is accessed through the fabricator.  Upgrade requires scraps and modules. Modules are blueprint items that are hidden around the station or can be crafted for a large sum of scraps. Once you have a module, the corresponding upgrade option for the module will be unlocked in the fabricator console. The list of upgrade modules is as follows:

  • Gun Module - A module used to upgrade the gun's capability such as its damage, firing range, and firing rate
  • Hacking Module - A module used to upgrade the hacking tool
  • Collector Module - A module used to upgrade scrap collectors. Upgrading scrap collectors will make them collect scraps more and faster.
  • Health Module - A module used to upgrade the player's health and recovery from medicine.

2. Scavenging


Scavenging has been added. Scavenging is pretty straightforward. crates and broken machines are treated as junk. When you have a scrap collector in your inventory, you can press the "Use" button to begin scavenging scraps from the junk. Scavenging is done automatically and will take some time before completing. Once completed, you can collect scraps from the object. You can increase the speed of the collector and the quantity of scraps collected by upgrading the collector module.

3. Animation Change


Added a soft muzzle flash when firing the gun.

4. Terminal


Added a new overworld item, the terminal. The terminal will be used to solve puzzles to open locked areas, obtain items, or access logs. The hacking tool will be used to open a locked console later on.

5. Populated more rooms

More rooms have been populated with crates, shelves, and other overworld items.

6. Extended the map slightly

Added a new room and corridor which can be accessed by the player on the eastern part of the map.

7. Change the shelf item pool again

Added collectors to the shelf item pool. Some shelves also contain specific item such as upgrade modules.

8. Starting Scene and Game Over

The starting scene has been overhauled and game over has been added, the game now ends when the player's health reaches 0.

9. Audio changes

Added ambiance sound, some BGM, and changed some SFX (e.g. gunshot

In related news, I've moved the development phase from "prototype" to "alpha" version since more features have been added to the game. 

The next update will focus on adding puzzles and game objectives (i.e. winning the game show).
