Game Update (City stats rework and new buildings)
Hello, Cityscapers has been updated with some additional features, buildings, and bug fixes. The update is now live on web and for desktop builds. Thank you for players who played the game. Suggestions and feedback are always welcome in the comment section of the game.
Note: All desktop builds are now compressed in 7z format. I suggest you use 7-Zip to properly decompress the application.
Changelog :
1. City stats rework
City stats (Health, education, security, and leisure) have all been reworked. Before the update, city stats were only used to calculate a special stat called city attractiveness which is subsequently used to control population growth in the city.
After the rework, each stats now affects the city differently. If any city stats fall below 30%, they will now trigger a penalty for the city making it crucial for players to juggle the stats as their city grows.
Health: Health now affects the city's population growth. If the city's health level falls below 30%, population growth will decrease as well.
Education: Education now affects building cost. If the city's education level falls below 30%, building cost will subsequently increase up to 3x their base cost.
Security: Security now affects commercial building's income rate. If the city's security level falls below 30%, commercial buildings income will decrease appropriately.
Leisure: Leisure now affects the city's health, education, and security level. If the city's leisure level falls below 30%, other stats will also decrease along with leisure.
To appropriately show the changes on city stats, progress bar on city stats now changes color from green to red when they fall below 30%:
2. Changes to city's attractiveness
Attractiveness is now set as a hidden value. City's attractiveness will still calculated from other city stats and will still affect population growth in tandem with the city's health level. As such, the progress bar to show city's attractiveness level has been removed from the city stats. Attractiveness might be reworked in planned future updates.
3. New Buildings
Three new buildings have been added to the game
Office Tower
Office tower is a new commercial building that cost 8000 credits to build. It provides a base income of 500 and has a maximum income cap of 6000 credits. It has a commercial range of 5x5 squares and occupies 1 tile. The office tower is unlocked by building 8 high-rise apartments.
Sports Field
The sports field is a new leisure building that cost 650 credits to build and 50 credits to maintain. It gives a +3 to leisure and occupies 2 tiles. To unlock the sports field, you will need to reach a peak population of 450.
Museum
The museum is a new leisure building and a one-of-its-kind so far. It cost 1500 credits to build and 350 credits to maintain and occupies 2 tiles. The museum gives +4 leisure and +6 education which makes it a slightly expensive alternative to small school. To unlock the museum, you will need to reach a peak population of 700.
More buildings are planned to be added to the game.
4. New Action card
A new action card has been added to the game; Government Loan
The Government Loan gives you 20000 credits immediately. And then, for 10 turns, your expense will be increased by 2500 credits.
The new action card also has a new mechanic. The chance of drawing this new action card will be increased by 80% when your city funds is equal to or below 500 credits.
5. Variant Buildings
A new feature called variant buildings has been added to the game. When building a small house or a high-rise apartment, the texture of the building will be randomized. This is test feature and probably would be removed or updated later.
6. Population growth rate display fix
A slight fix to population growth rate display to make it easier for the player to know the current population's growth rate.
7. Mobile touch fix
A possible fix when playing the game on mobile. Some buttons were unresponsive before the update and hopefully this update will fix the problem. This fix is unstable and might still produce bugs.
And that's about it for the current update.
As a side note, I am planning on adding new features to the game which is a major update. The new features could be ready by the end of August/ early September. Here's a tiny teaser for the major update:
Oh, and I'm also learning 3D modelling. Might make a small horror game in between or something.
